Join a fast-growing national developer of student apartments to manage development deal sourcing, market/financial underwriting, conceptual planning, and entitlement pursuit for predominately in-fill apartment and mixed-use projects.


  • Work directly with the Vice Presidents of Development to source, underwrite, and execute new development opportunities
  • Identify target markets, development sites, and differentiated concepts for predominately mid-rise and high-rise in-fill apartment projects
  • Develop key relationships with brokers, consultants, and industry leaders in the student apartment arena
  • Manage land purchase efforts, consultant selection, and associated contract negotiations
  • Manage internal project team(s) and outside consultants in creating an effective strategy for the success of the project(s)
  • Participate in the entitlement process from zoning through permit procurement
  • Lead underwriting and investment summary preparation
  • Work with the construction team to ensure the creation of responsible budgets, schedules and design decisions
  • Maintain and monitor project budgets of hard and soft costs from conceptual design through closing of financing
  • Work with the property management team to develop operating budgets and rent assumptions for new development projects
  • Assist the construction team with on-going design decisions, change order approval, and monthly draw requests
  • Effectively transition project(s) at completion to the leasing and property management teams


  • Bachelor’s degree with concentration in Finance, Real Estate, Engineering, or Building Sciences
  • 3 to 5 years (minimum) of experience in multi-family real estate development (preferably with an emphasis on student housing)
  • A demonstrated ability to build and direct effective teams to manage major development projects
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently while leveraging an established development platform
  • Detail oriented and drive to always be on top of their areas of responsibility
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to manage up and down
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Collaborative, respectful, and transparent approach with all stakeholders
  • Superior desire to meet commitments/deadlines
  • Ability to manage several projects simultaneously through high energy, flexibility and excellent organizational skills
